This Vet Assistant course is designed to give you an introduction to animal healthcare, you will learn about animal first aid and how to care for sick animals, and common diseases in animals and how to identify them.

You will also learn how to recognise the differences between what is normal and what is abnormal about an animal or group of animals, to give you a solid foundation for good animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.

Course Outline

Students will undertake 2 Key Modules, made up of 22 subjects.

Module 1: Animal Healthcare (100 Hours)
An introduction into animal healthcare, you will learn about animal first aid and how to care for the health of various types of animals. Become familiar with animal behaviours and how to recognise what is normal and what is not, to help identify signs of ill health. Learn about the facilities and procedures in a typical veterinary clinic environment, to give you a sound introduction in what to expect in these practices, from common routine health treatments to the administration of animal healthcare.

Module 2: Diseases in Animals (100 Hours)
Gain an increased knowledge and understanding of diseases that can affect the health of pets and other animals. You will learn how to examine sick animals and understand how diagnostic procedures are applied for determining diseases, including identifying common animal poisonings.

You will learn about the warning signs associated with different diseases and have a better capacity to make decisions about caring for sick animals and knowing when to seek advice from a skilled veterinarian.

Assessment

Assessments are a critical step in the learning process. They help ensure you stay on track and meet the learning objectives of each lesson before moving onto the next. They also help your tutor identify where any further support may be required, so that you get the most out of your course.

You will learn via various methods; a combination of reading, interacting with tutors, undertaking research and watching videos. Each lesson will conclude with an assignment which is marked by your assigned tutor and returned to you with feedback, and if necessary, some recommended additional reading. Assessments may come in the form of – case studies, quizzes and written assessments.
